The image above was done 100% in camera. No special effects were added in post. Besides light and color, nothing was tweaked during post production. Early 2020, I bought a very special vintage lens made in the former Soviet Union, since the late 50's. The Helios 44-2 is an early version, which presents a defect. At certain distance between the subject, background, and camera, a unique swirly Bokeh appears. By reversing the front element, the effect is stronger. The image above captured a strange vortex I was able to capture with this unique modified lens. At first, I thought it was an effect created by the lens. I tried another modified Helios 44-2 lens, but nothing crazy appeared. Everything you will see in this book is straight out of camera. No special effects or distorsion was made in post. Portals don't appear everywhere, and at this point I didn't know what laid behind the strange vortex. At first, I tried to locate other portals. I wasn't brave enough to come close to this thing. Actually, I didn't even know if it was possible to get in. In case you arrived here without starting from the beginning of my story, I advise to go at the beginning of the collection "Vortex". It will make more sense, if you view the series in the right order, especially if you read the description. At this point, my curiosity is growing fast about what's behind a portal. I'm very afraid, but something is pulling me to enter the vortex. What is waiting for me behind the portal is one thing, but how would I get back? I threw a couple of rocks and branches inside, but nothing happened. Nothing came back... The other images in my portfolio were taken behind the portal. I'm not sure if it's micro or macro. I lost sens of time and place. It was impossible to tell where I was and how big or small were the orbs I could see within the vortex. More info in Bio page about why I’m obsessed with dreamlike vortex and portals.

My name is Laurent, I'm 50 years old, born and raised in France. I went to college in the U.S,A., and I live today in the Principality of Andorra. Since the day I was able to hold a pen or a brush, I made some art. After trying pretty much everything possible during 45 years, today I settle on photography. I understand photography as reverse drawing or painting. Instead of starting from a blank canvas, then adding elements, a photographer has to eliminate elements until everything is in the right place within the frame. Fine Art and Street Photo are my main interests at the moment. The work I display on Saatchi Art is about dreamlike vortex populated with orbs. As a kid, do you remember staring at the small vortex created by water going down the drain in the bathtub? The images displayed in the portfolio are one of a kind. It was produced 100% in camera. No tweaking was done in post production, except adjustment to light and color. Also, each picture is a limited edition of one, making it a unique and valuable photography. Usually, photos are reproduced, but the Vortex collection will remain a ultra limited edition of 1/1. For the past 45 years, I experimented many different art forms, but representing vortex and portals to another dimension has always been an obsession. In a surrealist approach, I tried to recreate my dreams or nightmares. The camera enables me to create dreamlike vortex that run around my mind since I'm a child. Before, I was drawing, painting or sculpting them. There is a technical twist within the lens, in order to create these imaginary worlds I like so much. Photography is not an end in itself. I incorporate photography within the global artistic spectrum. Even if I made art since I'm a kid, I decided to present it to the world now. I never really shared anything before. It feels like I was practicing during 45 years, and finally I became brave enough to share publicly my work.
