Engrama #5 - Limited Edition 1 of 1 Photograph

Cyanotype is a photographic printing process that produces a cyan-blue print. The process uses two chemicals: ammonium iron citrate and potassium ferricyanide and is then exposed to the sun or ultraviolet light. This series of cyanotypes is a result from a research on family photo albums. Through the evocation of real and fictitious memories Engrama explores the idea of a link between past and present and the viewer’s possibility of a self-recognition through the other. Engrama was a term coined by zoologist and evolutionary biologist Richard Semon. His theory states that our memory is composed by a group of mnemic traces or engrams left by external experiences. He believed that these traces produced a permanent record on human beings, allowing information to travel through time and space as part of a collective human heritage.
