About The Artwork

This image shows the staircase of the Benedictine monastery in Catania, Sicily. With its massive and eternal impression it seems to deny and to defy the history of the monastery which was destroyed by Etna eruptions and rebuild several times throughout the centuries.

Born in Leipzig in 1950 I grew up close to the mountains of Bavaria, studied in Munich and Berlin where I live until today. Kreuzberg, the part of Berlin where I have my studio, is a very vital, multicultural hood. I love this part of the town because it has many nice, small shops, restaurants and cafés and I know lots of people here. When I came to Berlin in 1976, I started to work as publisher in my own company. Later I began my career as an architectural photographer. Since the beginning of the new Millennium I emphasized more and more on art photography.
