For years I’ve ran a factory in the south of Brazil in a cozy little town. It manufactured ropes, probably the most resistant ones in the planet. So resistant they would be used to fix a gigantic deepwater oil rigs to the ground. Even though the production process was clean, it invariably left different sorts of wastes. Plastics used as coatings. Leftover yarns. Steel from the machinery maintenance. Soot, carbon monoxide and pollution from the trucks. Anxiety. Brazilian economy was down to the ground and anxiety was up to the roof. For years I watched that. For years I’ve seen all of this go to landfills, junk yards and to the atmosphere. Most lately also to our synapsis. In the middle of this synaptic chaos I found myself into, trying to low costs, to produce more efficiently, to sell with higher margins, to develop brands and to do magic to fight the economic scenario, my mind got into a hurricane and I quite lost it. I was wasted. It turned myself into waste and I started turning waste into something that meant to me. Into something that represented all my anxieties and fears. It was chaos all around. My mind would spend days going round and round. As a result, different ways to explore that materials would flourish. I ended up developing different techniques to capture the waste, apply it on canvas and, later, to photograph it. This artwork was made with a mixture of wastes of paint combined with soot captured in the atmosphere I was inserted in, through a technique a call "water-and-soot". After that, a selected slices of the canvas were photographed using 50mm lenses. You can even see the texture of the canvas, representing the proximity I was lacking at that time, combined in a mix of naturally textured tears of carbon monoxide. In the end it is all pollution that probably we would all have breathed. And now it can be hanging on your wall.

My work is a result of my observations of the factory environment in which I live immersed in. Through waste recycling and capture of carbon dioxide and soot on canvas, I try to challenge the rigidity of the industrial world creating ephemeral aesthetics and proposing new art techniques.
