Art Description

Photography: Cyanotype, Gold Leaf, Contact Print, Handmade Paper, Blue Print on Paper, Other.

Framed original, XS mixed media gold leaf cyanotype.
Hand-brush coated.
Hand finished with 24ct gold leaf.
Handprinted on handmade 100% recycled cotton rag paper.

Inspired by the mathematical genius and 'First Lady' of computer programming Ada Lovelace.

Flyology (The Language Of Lovelace Study) XS was created by photographing a hand-cut collage of female photographic portraiture, photographs of an antique tin toy horse, handprinted photograms of insects wings, photographs of Jacquard punch cards, the moon and planetary chemigrams. The digital negative was then contact printed onto hand made circular paper that had been hand-brushed with chemicals, before drying in a dark room. Once exposed to light, the piece was washed to develop a cyan blue colour, pressed dry and hand finished with 24ct gold leaf.

Dimensions - 100mm diameter (unframed) 145mm diameter (framed) x 30mm frame depth x 11mm frame face

Paper - Handprinted on handmade ivory recycled cotton rag paper: 150gsm / 100% Cotton Rag / Recycled / Acid Free / PH Neutral / Medium Rough

Mount - It is recommended to keep this piece float mounted when framing.

Framing - This artwork is sold framed.

Float mounted in a bespoke, handmade extra small sized circular frame. The frame is a deep box frame, museum grade, UV protected, anti reflective glass fronted and with a smooth white finish.

This is taken from a series of cyanotypes based on females in history and mythology. Ones who particularly inspire me, deserve to be recognised and celebrated as powerful figures in time.

I want to visually tell a story with each piece to celebrate the lives of these amazing women using portraiture, symbolism and surrealism.

I expose all my pieces in natural light for up to a couple of weeks. Printing in all weather conditions, doing everything by eye and in the most organic way possible, this enables me to be at one with each piece I create.
