Limited Edition 4 of 50 Mounted on creamy white mount card. Print size is 20.0 inches (H) x 20.0 inches (W). With mount card, overall size is 24.0" x 24.0". Shipped flat in cardboard box with Certificate of Authenticity. I took this photograph on Color film using a Hasselblad camera (Medium Format). This means that there is very fine definition in the image. Bait Sadof, or Siddof, (“House of Sadof”) was a large 3 storey Yemeni style mansion in Mirbat. It was built by a rich merchant in the 1850s. There are many stories told about him by local people. Tradition has it that he had so much money that he kept it in a small pool filled with oil (maybe to stop the coins from tarnishing). Unfortunately, the house was in an advanced state of decay when I last saw it, and I believe it may now be ‘history’. It was made of stone and clay with coconut tree wood for beams. As it hadn’t had any maintenance done on it for 30 or 40 years, it quickly descending into a pile of rubble. When I took this photograph, in the early 2000s, it was possible to carefully ascend the stairs right up to the 3rd floor. There was beautiful decorative work in the upper rooms which I have also photographed. Keywords: Middle East, Dhofar, Oman, Sultanate of Oman, Mirbat, Sidof, GCC, Arabia, Arab, historic building, Yemeni style.
