About The Artwork

GIALLO is part of the SFUMATO photography series which captures the rhythms of the European urban landscape through an abstract style of street photography. This work explores focus as a way to remove unnecessary details thus leavingb the essential elements, such as shapes, patterns and color exposed. By deconstructing the urban environment through the lens, I create intentionally blurry images by altering clarity at the moment of capture. The chance alignment of subject and light is spontaneous and is an essential part of the work. My style of photography, which is used in overly photographed cities such as Paris, London, Florence and Venice allows the viewer to see the rhythm of these familiar environments in new ways; to look beyond the obvious and feel the essence of place. FLORENCE 2016 Giclée print on cotton rag archival paper. Available in other sizes. Please inquire.

Hardie Cobbs is a Seattle based multimedia artist who works in several mediums including painting, photography, printmaking, and ceramics. Her minimalist approach of reducing compositions to the essential elements, such as color, line and repetition is the theme throughout all of her work. By working in several mediums, she believes this allows her to work in a more comprehensive way as an artist. Her work has been exhibited in San Francisco, New York, Seattle, and Birmingham and has been featured in several publications. Born and raised in Atlanta, Cobbs went to college in Washington, DC and then moved to the west coast where she has lived ever since. She took photography studies at the Corcoran School of Art and painting studies at the San Francisco Art Institute as well as at RISD. She was an active member of the San Francisco artist community for many years before relocating to the Pacific Northwest. She lives in Seattle with her husband and 3 children.
