Martin Carter lives and works from his studio in Suffolk, UK. The Contemporary Fine Art Landscape photography work that Martin Carter produces is Ab Ex in style, with the intention to initially portray to you, the viewer, something you will recognise as abstraction in formula but within the grasp of a physicality - because they are captured from a real life object, reflecting the effect of Weather Impaction and Human Interaction upon the surface of everyday objects. Martin's Ab Ex photography is inspired by the notions within Action and Colourfield Paintings expressed in the 1940's movements towards introspective humanistic realisations. To invite a reaction at the time of a post war world; looking at the age old concepts between life and death; while living a reality in survival mode. Expressions in these works from the 1940's onwards still speak to Martin, with his reflections upon contemporary times and the primary issues of today. Making an interwoven cloak infused with the works from a great art history. Seen in the work of past master painters whom he believes share his passion for colour and texture (or whose beauty of colour and texture he admires): Antoni Tapies, Robert Rauschenberg, Cy Twombly, Howard Hodgkin, Robert Motherwell, Mark Rothko, Franz Kline, Richard Diebenkorn, Francis Bacon and Maggi Hambling. As well as the artists who inspired them Picasso, Kandinsky, Modigliani and Giacometti. We are all links in the chain like those before us; we stand on the shoulders of giants. It is these works to which Martin's thoughts and eye gravitate when looking through the lens of the camera. Education: Martin studied at Ipswich Art School in the mid 1990's, grounding practice in photography, painting and printmaking. Exhibiting widely in Suffolk over the past 20 years; documenting a journey of curiosity to discover understanding for given surface texture found in our natural surroundings. Contemplating reason for scientists and artists in their struggle to underpin natural laws of physics, particularly hidden laws within entropy. Privately educated the proceeding 20 years, Martin's work depicts an evolving thought process and adventure of discovery, developing a visual language that transposes a very human response to our environmental consciousness.
