ABOUT THE ARTWORK
The colors, mood, and quiet calm of Assateague Island, Virginia in the middle of the winter is both haunting and magical. The shoreline is just far enough south that some herons and egrets stay year round without migrating further south. As the sun set on a late December evening, this great blue heron sat motionless surveying the territory. The scene struck me as meditative and almost painterly, and I hope to convey that peaceful quality in this image.
