Original circular mixed media copper leaf cyanotype.
Hand finished with variegated acid treated Italian copper leaf.
Handprinted on handmade ivory recycled cotton rag paper.
This artwork was inspired by the ancient Egyptian goddess Hathor. Associated with re-birth, rejuvenation, inspiration and light. She is the cosmic mother of the skies, sun, fertility, goddess of women, joy, celebration and love.
Hathor Goddess Of The Skies XL was created by photographing a hand-cut collage of female portraiture, hand printed surface textures of a paper chemigram negative representing the sun disk. The digital negative was then contact printed onto handmade paper brush coated with chemicals, before drying in a dark room. Once exposed to light, the piece was washed to develop a cyan blue colour, pressed dry and then hand finished with Italian copper leaf painted with acids in a sunburst pattern.
This is taken from a series of cyanotypes based on females in history and mythology. Ones who particularly inspire me, deserve to be recognised and celebrated as powerful figures in time.
I want to visually tell a story with each piece to celebrate the lives of these amazing women using portraiture, symbolism and surrealism.
I expose all my pieces to natural daylight for up to a couple of weeks. Printing in all weather conditions, doing everything by eye and in the most organic way possible, this enable me to be at one with each piece I create.
The circular frame was handcrafted to house the float mounted piece.
