Mor-phol-o-gy is the study of the forms of things in particular. There is a nature trail very close to my house. On my daily walks to take a break from my studio, I found myself picking up leaves and flowers that caught my eye. In nature, from the stages of death and decay comes transformation and the birth of something new. This theme has followed me in all of my work including my experimentation and chemical manipulation present in my film work. The cycles of life are clear, there is not only an order but a repetitive pattern and rhythm. I had an immediate desire to observe then re-arrange this order by using the leaves and flowers I had collected. By re-interpreting or simply observing the structures, I saw new parallels and metaphors for the cycles of life. Each leaf and flower have a distinct pattern and stage of decay. Each one has a different story to tell, and in its death, it continues to feed the earth as everything returns to the earth. Lisa Folino born 1958, Northridge California,United States. I have spent most of life as an artist and a musician. Photography was introduced to me at an early age by my father. I live and work as a fine art photographer in Newport Beach, California.Since the early 1990's I have been using Polaroid film/materials. Most of my photography involves experimentation and the alchemy of transformation. "Grace and Truth" is a series of images which took 7 years to transform through a chemical manipulation of the film. Like a fossil or a fresco, time has played an important role in the expression of this work. "Shadows and Light" explores the way in which we perceive reality through the still life. It is also a journey into our dreams. The portfolio "Prima Materia" is a complete degradation of the image. This reveals an abstract realty which exists below the surface of the photographic image."
