Handprinted on handmade ivory recycled cotton rag paper.

This artwork was inspired by the influential lecturer and universal genius Hypatia Of Alexandria. A philosopher, astronomer, mathematician and icon for women's rights.

Hypatia's Scholarly World Revolving (Study In Gold) No5 was created by photographing a hand-cut collage of female portraiture, photograms of a honeycomb and hand printed chemigrams to create the planetary structures. The digital negative was then contact printed onto hand made circular paper that had been brush coated with chemicals, before drying in a dark room. Once exposed to light, the piece was washed to develop a cyan blue colour, pressed dry and then hand finished with 24ct gold leaf.

Dimensions - 100mm diameter (unframed) 145mm diameter (framed) x 30mm deep x 11mm frame face

Paper - Handprinted on handmade ivory recycled cotton rag paper: 150gsm / 100% Cotton Rag / Recycled / Acid Free / PH Neutral / Rough

Mount - It is recommended to keep this piece float mounted when framing.

Framing - This artwork is sold framed.

Float mounted in a bespoke, handmade extra small sized circular frame. The frame is a deep box frame, museum grade, UV protected, anti reflective glass fronted and with a smooth white finish.

This is taken from a series of cyanotypes based on females in history and mythology. Ones who particularly inspire me, deserve to be recognised and celebrated as powerful figures in time.

I want to visually tell a story with each piece to celebrate the lives of these amazing women using portraiture, symbolism and surrealism.

I expose all my pieces in natural light for up to a couple of weeks. Printing in all weather conditions, doing everything by eye and in the most organic way possible, this enables me to be at one with each piece I create.
