'I'm forever blowing bubbles' Photograph - Limited Edition of 1

As a sculptor in wood I got to specialize in whales and dolphins. To be closer to my subject I went to Ireland in 1992 to swim with the famous 'Fungi' in Dingle and returned every year for ever longer lasting summers. Due to back injury I stopped making larger sculptures in 1997 and started to write. In 2002 I switched dolphin and swam with 'Dusty' in County Clare up to the present day, which I have documented extensively with articles, photos and videos on my website 'Dolphin Address', www.janploeg.nl. In 2004 I moved to Ireland permanently and live in my van on the edge of the ocean, 10 meters from the high water line and sometimes less... I have a lifelong fascination for water and a strong urge to express this. As dolphins are shaped by water I sculpted dolphins from growth forms of wood. I also swim like a dolphin, with a monofin and a self-developed 'waterwing', inspired by the pectoral fins of a Humpback whale. Now I photograph and video the dolphin, but I also hunt waves with my camera. And other manifestations of natural beauty.
