About The Artwork

Part of a series of ice abstracts I worked on during a cold snap we had here on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. I scoured local streams/rivers looking for interesting ice formations and found this unique combination of shapes/forms. UPDATE: 2017 Weather Channel Photo Contest Finalist This image made the finals of the 2017 Weather Channel Photo Contest. Out of 52,000 plus submitted images only 49 images were finalists. My submission was the only true abstract/macro in the finals. I knew I didn't stand a chance to win as they were looking for completely different types of images (landscapes/animals). Also professional and amateurs were allowed to submit images which means the best photographers in the world were eligible to compete. This was still a small victory for me considering this was an macro/abstract photo. We received more than 52,000 submissions in our 2017 It's Amazing Out There Photo Contest. Both professional and amateur photographers alike entered their best weather, nature and adventure photos for a chance to win the $15,000 grand prize. We narrowed down the submissions to 49 finalists, and from there, a panel of star judges selected our three winners. FINALIST: https://weather.com/photos/places/news/2017-photo-contest-finalists Please Note: All photos will be printed on the following papers using archival inks. Please specify which you would prefer when ordering your print. 1) Paper - Epson Premium Glossy 250 2) Paper - Moab Lasal Photo Matte 230 Please see the following important information: Unless your monitor is calibrated to show colors and tonal values accurately, an image viewed on your computer is likely to look radically different from the same image viewed on your neighbor's computer. What looks light purple on your screen may really be dark blue. Printers use the actual data within the image rather than the screen appearance when reproducing color. So, even though the image may appear great on your un-calibrated monitor, the resulting print may be far different than anticipated. While it is possible to create prints that look perfect without calibrating your monitor, more trial and error is involved, and that can become costly and frustrating. Out of the box, monitors tend to be set overly bright with a bias toward blue. This is why the most common question about prints is; “Why are my prints too dark?” Of course, if you are editing your images on a monitor that is displaying your image too bright, the resulting print will look too dark.

Mike Cable is a multi award winning and published photographer. His photography offers a new way of looking at the marvelous details we encounter in daily life. Restlessly seeking the unusual in the usual, Cable’s carefully composed shots feature common objects reframed and revisited. Plunging into each object with a freshly born vigor, Cable is concerned with the photograph as a residue of a unique experiential encounter. Abstract marks and scrawls, patterns, systems and maps emerge from familiar artificial and organic matter. Rust, plant life, paint and architectonic abstractions in dynamic hues reveal their own unique look.
