This portrait of singer Iggy Pop was taken in Miami in 2003. It was shot on medium format film and is very sharp and rich in detail. It is part of my ongoing series called "Iconography". Like mugshots these portraits document icons of popular culture in a very direct way, unified by a photo booth style set up with a ring flash as the key light. It was part of my second solo exhibition at Gallery Poulsen in 2015. "Iggy Pop, Miami 2003" is part of a Limited Edition of 5 plus 2 Artist Proofs The image is printed on Hahnemühle Photo Rag Baryta 315gsm Fine Art Paper paying homage to traditional silver gelatin print. Paul Batoon, the premiere print maker in Los Angeles oversees the production of each edition. Rainer Hosch will personally review each artwork before it is packaged and rolled in a tube delivered by a courier. A signed and numbered certificate of authenticity accompanies each artwork, which can be affixed to the back of the print when framed.

Rainer Hosch’s migration from Vienna to New York City and finally Los Angeles has informed the evolution of his photographic practice. In New York City he focused on documenting the streets, observing urban spaces with raw edges and most importantly the people within. The exploration of street photography is rooted in his work as a portraitist. Hosch’s second solo exhibition featured black and white portraits or more accurately mug shots of popular culture icons. When he arrived in Los Angeles, Hosch and his family moved to Topanga Canyon, removed from the dense urbanity of the city. Rainer Hosch was born in 1970 in Vienna, Austria, and moved to New York in 1997. He studied photography at the Institute for Teaching and Research in Graphic Arts, Vienna, and at UCLA. Rainer Hosch is represented at the National Museum of Photography in Denmark.
