About The Artwork

A series of photographic patterns shown at the exhibition "A horizon is not flat" at The Ionion Center for the Arts and Culture in Metaxata, Kefalonia, Greece in June 2014. The exhibition is part of the project Mapping Kefalonia at the Ionion Center. By taking photos in series I want to accentuate the human experience of place, focusing on ground perspective and three dimensional experience. The series aim to describe continuity, context and viewer perspective of visual appearance. When working with pattern, interrelations, continuity and rhythm within a composition are equally important as content of an image. The project can be seen as a subjective and fictional take on a documentary medium as photography. Similar to the idea of abstraction, pattern can be a tool to clarify, simplify and exaggerate certain visual characteristics. “A horizon is not flat” aims to communicate and highlight characteristics as shape, color and spatial changeability of Kefalonian views and appearances.

I work as a freelance designer and artist specialised in pattern and textile. I am part of Stockholm based design collective Studio Rita. I aim for my work to have an associative impact on the viewer, in any direction. I prefer abstract imagery. I find that reduced information opens up for association, imagination and mystery. I believe this is the base for my fascination for patterns. I find an innate energy in repeats. Endless, eternal but absolutely present, demanding my attention. Soothing, calming and comforting, intriguing my mind to wander. I create patterns for textile and other surfaces. I also work with pattern in installation concepts combining two- and three-dimensional elements.
