Andrea’s work aims to transform the photographic medium into painting on a visual level in order to establish reverse hyperrealism. Influenced by Jean Baudrillard’s Simulacra and Simulation, the goal of her work is to create a hyperreal world for viewers that allows them to open their minds and examine contemporary social issues from different angles. The body of work called “Bra Bra Bra” consists of playful, surreal and Freudian representations of the inner life and outward expressions of womanhood. According to Freud, the bra in our dreams signifies support, security, dignity and self-respect. Each piece depicts different conditions and emotional states inherent to femaleness, from facing down gender stereotypes, limitations, fear, and need of self-esteem, intimacy, and love. Andrea recognizes art as the most powerful and effective means of not only expression but, ultimately, revolutionary change. The mission of her surreal photography with a conceptual feminist bent is to remind women of their worth and to simply empower them. This specific piece shows support for recent law of gay and lesbian marriage.
