About The Artwork

The Karl Marx Allee in in former East Berlin was in the socialist period after the second world war a grey and gloomy area. After the fall of the wall in 1989 the world changed and now its a Coca Cola neon lighted decor of modern buildings with a background of socialist architecture. "Karl Marx Revisited" is part of my series: Europe a slow Journey, about the change of a continent. Photograph is printed on Hahnemulle heavy weight, fine art paper. The edition is six with two AP's. Print comes with a white boarder of apr. 4". I'll be happy to make a price for another print dimension.

Born in Amsterdam in a creative family, I thought I would become a graphic designer. I became a photographer and after my study I traveled around the world for my international clients, until I returned to my first love the fine art photography. Now my base is my hometown Amsterdam where I work on my personal projects in my studio. In addition to this, I am a part-time teacher of photography and visual communication at different art academies in the Netherlands. My work is influenced by the classic photographers from the sixty’s and seventies and often I use analogue techniques combined with modern state of the art equipment. I control my work process from exposure to the final art print. I've won several prizes and nominations at PANL (Photographers of the Netherlands) During my travels I have learned to appreciated the value of the continent where I live and my concern has grown that its authenticity could soon disappear. Much of my work is about this and it is described as romantic and slightly melancholic.
