About The Artwork

From the series ‘Impossible Horizons’ architectural photography with a twist. An interest in photographing classic modernist architecture is extended beyond just the initial capture by manipulating the images to produce other worldly objects. These symmetrical, abstract forms are freed from the constraints of terra firma to float in space in an impossible horizon. These works entice the viewer to take a closer look, working like an architectural Rorschach test they trigger individual responses to what they could be and even which way they should be hung.

While embarking on extensive road trips across Australia and the US photographing architecture Goddard also explores deserted landscapes, documenting decaying monuments of human endeavour from abandoned motels and gas stations to entire towns.
This has led to two bodies of work ‘Welcome to Dystopia’ and ‘Deserted’, exploring themes of emptiness and desolation.
