From the series ‘Impossible Horizons’ architectural photography with a twist. An interest in photographing classic modernist architecture is extended beyond just the initial capture by manipulating the images to produce other worldly objects. These symmetrical, abstract forms are freed from the constraints of terra firma to float in space in an impossible horizon. These works entice the viewer to take a closer look, working like an architectural Rorschach test they trigger individual responses to what they could be and even which way they should be hung.

Geoffrey Goddard is an internationally awarded art director, designer and photographer with a passion for 20th Century architecture, road trips and street photography all of which you will find in his work. His latest series ‘Impossible Horizons’ extends his interest in architectural photography by manipulating images of buildings to produce other worldly objects that float in space, freed from the constraints of terra firma. These abstract symmetrical forms entice the viewer to take a closer look, interpreting the objects in any way they wish. an architectural Rorschach test that triggers individual responses to what they could be. While embarking on extensive road trips across Australia and the US photographing architecture Goddard also explores deserted landscapes, documenting decaying monuments of human endeavour from abandoned motels and gas stations to entire towns. This has led to two bodies of work ‘Welcome to Dystopia’ and ‘Deserted’, exploring themes of emptiness and desolation. He has been a finalist in the Head On Landscape Prize and was recently runner up in the Architecture category for Capture Magazines 2018 Emerging Photographers Awards, also placing 5th in the Documentary category.
