La Cité Radieuse Half Frame Triptych, Marseille. 2018 - Limited Edition of 10 Photograph

This constructed photographic triptych is part of my half-frame photography series. The half frame camera was common in the 1960's and placed two 24 X 18mm images into the space of a traditional 24 X 36mm format. Although largely forgotten today, when used creatively they offer a unique way to tell a photographic story. This image was constructed by taking three images of La Cité Radieuse in Marseille. Considered one of the best examples of Brutalist Architecture and a masterpiece of the French visionary Le Corbusier, this half frame triptych tranforms this modern architectural wonder into its own photographic interpretation as the half-frame format works perfectly here to create a visual world of its own. Here I have isolated several defining features of this building and placed them into intriguing juxtapositions, redefining the work in photographic terms.
