ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Signed and numbered Limited Edition of 8 The use of strong shadows and stark light give emphasis to the emotional connection that people have with the surrounding or their selves, a dialogue with solitude that we all have, which is not necessarily nostalgic, but always intimate and unique. I hope my work makes viewers just to think beyond the images, and how locality is reshape it under global discourses.

I am a Colombian artist Based in Berlin, I have been trying to speak/write about me and my work, not just here, but in different situations and I am curios how most of the artist (visual) we don't say how afraid we are to write and talk about our work. So here, I just started being honest with you and with my self. As I said before I am a Colombian artist living in Berlin, My family works in the tanning leather production in Colombia from raw to finished leather, therefore I grow up close to the leather industrie where basically I was noticing the process that takes to make a leather bag, shoes, belts... way before manufacturing the final product. So I basically saw what does it take to have a finished leather bag from the most wider perspective...and how this one is at the end just re-famed as a final product. Why am I telling you this.. because I am simply fascinated with the question of what is behind of... and certainly I am trying to focus my work to this question.. what is behind of the final 'product' that we see places, objects, images... I use different approaches from photography, drawing, installations and academic work to talk about this which ends up normally addressing political, social, economical issues, or just life... This perspective is most notable in my photography series, where you will be able to see: The forgotten (Word that came up talking with a person which was interested in my work at TOAF LDN, an obvious word that I didn't see until he referenced in the most beautiful way. Thanks dear Rodney ) as the main subject of the Images. I started with these monumental places that become mass tourism and exoticized landscapes that blur, and erase individuals. At the end of the day, the people on the photographs are having an emotional connection with their surroundings, a dialogue with solitude that we all have in different ways. The camera helps me to catch this hiding moments where light shows me the situation, the person... and to be honest, for me is a perception far away from nostalgia even though most of the people associate my photographs with drama, for me are beyond that, are beauty and peace. I don't want you to get bored, just please take a minute from the whole bunch of photographs and images that we see every day and enjoy the beauty of light. Thank you.
