Las Vegas - Limited Edition 3 of 3 Photograph

My current work is the beginning of a new series that sees itself as a parable on the shattering “Land of Dreams” that is America. The pictures are made in a specific technique. I compose my pictures of four to six 8 x 10 inch slides (slides are sharper than negatives). Then I scan the slides and mount them into one picture in Photoshop. Why all this work? The bigger the format of the slide/negative, the calmer the picture, the world in front of the camera seems to be in a standstill. In addition I can set more than one sharpness level, so that the foreground, the middle ground, and the background are sharp. At the same time I have more than one exposure level so that all areas of the picture are perfectly exposed. Subsequently I print the photographs over several days in cooperation with picture editors at a laboratory in Duesseldorf. For me it is exciting to take my own view on the specific situation in these specific times in America. The elevated viewpoint makes it possible to get this rapidly changing country to come to a standstill for an instant. Like in a parable, civilization and nature seem to fight a battle of territorial sovereignty. Due to the high levels of photographic sharpness it is possible to look at the pictures from a distant viewpoint and also to experience the details from up close.
