Leaf: Life's Love Note Photograph

Nature often sends symbols of love my way, perhaps because I appreciate even the smallest details of everyday life. In this case, an elegant leaf, in the shape of a heart, has hugged the earth and left it's impression behind. It caught my eye when I was on a stroll down the canopied road from my family's farm. It was Fall, my father had recently passed away, and I felt the need to get outside to get some fresh air. Years prior, my dad had told me that after his death, he would reappear to me as a bird; a vibrant, red cardinal. A few steps after finding this leaf print in the sand, a jubilant red cardinal flew past me and landed in the bushes on the side of the road. As I caught up to it, I stared at it, and it stared right back. It looked so happy and full of life it could hardly sit still. As I stood there shaking, trying to wrap my mind around what I was seeing and simultaneously wrap my hands around my camera, the red cardinal flew off. it occurred to me that my father was free to fly on the other side. It became clear that his spirit was eternal, it had just changed form. And the beautifully etched imprint left by the leaf in the sand was his life's love note; reminding me that no detail is ever lost, and we are all eternal beings.
