About The Artwork

Final pieces for my HNC year end exhibition at Rock City Art, Bedford UK. A four part series which questions humanities obsession with making things in their image and the unrealistic ideal they then try to make humanity conform to. (And the interesting comparative that eastern dolls vs western tend to be more realistic in the face, than body whilst the west is the opposite. This also matches research into cultural choices for cosmetic surgery with the west favouring more heavily on tummy tucks, breast enlargements than on facial surgery).

I'm not brilliant about talking or in this case writing "about me" bios. But guess if you are reading this you are intrigued in my background. So who is Jasmine Murray and what's her background, you might be asking? I hail for the windy and inevitably rainy country of the United Kingdom (which probably explains an awful lot in regards to my work anyway...) Before I took up the career choice of photography in 2011 I had been intending on pursuing a career in Media/Journalism, however even before I chose photography as a career move I had always been enamored with the arts and photography. From a young age of two I had a toy camera before moving on to a fisher-price camera at the age of three, given to me by my grandparents. Since three I have been constantly taking photograph's as a hobby (most of my childhood involved using slr film camera's but in my teen years I switched to Olympus digital SLR's). My main sources of inspiration for picking up the camera, are my grandfather's national service photograph's which feature India culture in the 1940s. I also source inspiration from my other family member's who also have an interest in Photography, though that's mostly me borrowing their equipment, much to their dismay(sorry dad). In 2011 I started my college course and have never looked back. I completed my HND photography course in 2015 with distinction.
