Lightverse - Part 1 - Limited Edition 1 of 10 Photograph

This series of work is an examination of structure, tessellation and symmetry. ​​ ​​A photograph is overlaid on itself many times, and a new level of complexity and structure emerges. The original photograph was a long exposure of city lights. Using Bulb mode and freely moving the camera during the exposure. Recording movement in space. A record of time then used again as a building block for a new structure. ​​ ​​My Inspiration: ​​I've always been fascinated with interference patterns. Moire patterns. Ressonance. Escher's work had a big effect on me as a child. I like art works where the meaning isn't immediately obvious. Rather a space for the senses to explore and reflect your own meaning on. ​​ ​​The work involves tessalation of a photographic image, using various rotations, translations and overlay blending. While creating the work I take time moving the layers over each other to find the valleys and peaks of ressonance. Finding combinations that are most likely to set the viewers imagination in motion. ​​ ​​It could be a macroscopic or microscopic view. The work is not as rule based as a computer generated fractal, but more organic than mere tiling of a two dimensional plane. Part snow flake, part collage. I've chosen colours and tones to bring interest to certain areas. Viewed up close the large format art work still has the signature photographic grain. ​​ ​​ ​​The work explores interdimentionality and transcending the limits of three dimensional space and linear time. Multiple versions of the same event intermeshed. A snapshot of possible states churning. A flower with petals growing and fading. Fear death or fear life. ​​A gate to the next state of you. ​​ ​​Prints: ​The works are available as limited edition giclee prints on Hahnemuhle Photo Rag, Baryta Glossy fine art paper (315gsm 100% Cotton, white, high gloss). Printed by EPSON SC20070 using pigment ink.
