ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Whenever I am asked if I have a favourite place in NZ, without hesitation I tell folks it is the Maniototo. I love the vastness of the landscape, the solitude so quiet you could hear a feather falling from the sky. I love the locals, their toughness, passion, freindship and openness is amazing. Their history sings to you from every building. St Bathans, Poolburn, Manorburn, Danseys Pass, Kyeburn, Wedderburn with Ange in the Tavern and the Duncan's cottages, Waipiata Tavern, the Taierei, Naseby, Ophir all, the list runs deep enough to hold a photographer's heart forever. In that heart of hearts lies Home Hills Run, cared for generations by the same family, who kindly allow me access to their land for which I am truly grateful. The cookhouse, now made famous by the movie The Power of the Dog has many faces of which I've only yet but seen a few. My favourite is the one I will meet tomorrow but this is close. I envy those who call it home.
