About The Artwork

Title | LUNAR ETIQUETTE UNDER THE HARVEST MOON XL Type | Original Gold Cyanotype Inspiration | Friendship and the solidarity of sisterhood Year | 2020 Materials | Cyanotype, handmade paper, 24-carat gold leaf Inspiration-
This artwork is a celebration of friendship and our connections, the solidarity of sisterhood and the joys of womankind. It is a direct reference to lunar and life cycles. Technique-
Lunar Etiquette Under The Harvest Moon XL (No2) was created by constructing a hand-cut collage using female photographic portraiture and the surface textures from lunar photographs. After coating the handmade paper with light-sensitive chemistry, it is left to dry in a dark room. The large scale negative is then contact printed onto the paper by exposing to daylight (UV rays). The print is then processed by thoroughly washing in water to remove any unexposed solution. It can then be hung to dry, developing to full density Prussian blue after 24 hours. Once the image is fixed it is hand finished with 24-carat gold leaf. Dimensions
 Unframed: 550mm diameter
Framed: 700mm diameter x 30mm frame depth x 18mm frame face Paper
 Handmade recycled cotton rag paper:
320gsm / 100% Cotton Rag / Recycled / Acid Free / Medium Rough Mount
We use float mounting for all of our framed cyanotypes. The artwork floats above a snow-white 8001 mount board, to showcase the paper texture and deckled edging. Framing
Framed artwork will arrive ready to hang. Each frame is handmade by our London based design team. All frames come with gallery spec, 3mm thick Artglass AR70 / 3mm anti-reflective/ 79% UV protected glazing as standard. This is taken from a series of cyanotypes based on females in history and mythology. Ones who particularly inspire me, deserve to be recognised and celebrated as powerful figures in time. I want to visually tell a story with each piece to celebrate the lives of these amazing women using portraiture, symbolism and surrealism. I expose all my pieces in natural light for up to a couple of weeks. Printing in all weather conditions, doing everything by eye and in the most organic way possible, this enable me to be at one with each piece I create.

I am an internationally recognised, London based fine artist, photographer and mixed-media printmaker. Best known for my circular cyanotypes I embrace and develop innovative ways of reworking photographic images through collage and mixed-media print techniques, and by blending science, darkroom alchemy and art. My work explores the boundless possibilities of image production in the age of modern printmaking with an aim to reinvent, recycle, redefine, experiment and preserve. Female empowerment, natural history and science are recurring themes across the work, constructing visual narratives from the lives of extraordinary, trailblazing women - celebrating their achievements, uncovering their struggles and telling the stories of these often unsung heroes. "I hope people are empowered by the story behind each piece and that the subject matter ignites imaginations and a curiosity to delve deeper. The key emotion is to feel connected - connected to the story, the techniques and the science behind the work, and to be connected to the elements of nature I introduce to explore human experience and the relationship between each of us, and the world we live in."
