Magdalenafjord II Photograph

Large format film image taken while participating in the Arctic Circle Residency. During the residency, the artist lived aboard a barquentine sailing vessel and traveled the high arctic archipelago of Svalbard. This is in fact a color image -- the low light of the arctic fall and the fog that day made Magdalenafjord appear entirely grey, even in person. At the foot of this mountain lay a frozen 16th century Dutch cemetery, populated by whalers who died while working in this faraway place.
