Masked Self-Portrait, Washington DC, 1965 Photograph

What began as a few photos to be used as personal reference while studying drawing and anatomy at the Corcoran School of Art in Washington D.C. in 1965 has become an enduring art project spanning more than 50 years of my life. In an effort to accurately depict the human body I began using myself as a nude model strictly out of convenience and with the no intention of ever showing these photographs to anyone else. During this self-taught process of learning about photography in order to enhance my physique I started taking great pains in composing and experimenting with various lighting techniques and inadvertently, my nude self-portraits became my final works of art.
