About The Artwork

That which primarily interests me in my work is the expansion and exploration of new edges through the incorporation of technological means in the creative process. With it, the development of an aesthetic intuition that belongs to the current rushing transition and hybridization and which echoes the quest for ephemeral references and slowdowns that accompanies it. Matter, its dynamic qualities and underestimated ‘imagination’, is the underlying metaphor and actual substance I use while generating my works. The incorporation of technology allows me an exposure and investigation at multiple scales and durations within a painting process. So while dynamic ‘material processes’ provide me an unlimited set of brushes, technology operates as my multiple and asynchronous organ of capturing. The media I ‘paint’ upon has migrated along projects from the solidity of canvases, to papers, to overlaid films and to liquid mediums in Petri dishes. The technological means include different techniques of scanning (large scale, 2D, 3D), magnification of still photography, image rendering on different media (hand made paper, perplex, canvas, metal) and the human technology of collaboration and mediation of expression. None of these works can be thought of as a lone artist and his brushes, they all demand intense stages of collaborations.

JD Doria, Born 1961, interdisciplinary and independent artist, lives and works in Tel-Aviv. Maturing into painting coagulates a background in Cinema and Stage Art with a love for writing, combined with years of study and experimental research into territories of human thought and metaphysics, and on the overall an autodidactic and Dadaistic approach to life. My recent work reflects a growing interest in the 'Future', and in a radical "˜reading' of Aesthetic. The Artist J.D Doria rather then composing, "˜grows' his images from the materials, surfaces and mediums he is using. Technology is his organ of apprehension through which he curates the generative capacity of the work. His works is a complex and fascinating glimpse into Nature and it's morphogenesis endless capacity. Organic, molecular, transcendent. These are only some of the words that come to mind when looking at J.D. Doria's captivating images.
