“Melt away and take with you your icy trickle.” This photo is part of my Winter: At Odds series, which explores the paradoxical nature of winter. The lightest and the darkest. The coldest and the coziest. Blurred and muffled, crisp and clear. Why is winter loved by some and hated by many? How can it chill the bone yet warm the heart? In this series, I transform winter into an abstraction by introducing movement and blurring into my photos through deliberate camera movements. This process strips away biases and reveals the intangible elements that form the dichotomous essence of winter. This is a limited edition print (1 of 5, plus 2 AP) printed on matte photo paper and mounted on an aluminum composite panel. It is coated with a laminate protect the surface from abrasion and UV damage. The panel is fitted with a 5/8-inch C-bar hanging system on the back, making it ready to hang and creating a floating effect. The print is numbered and signed on a certificate of authenticity, which is affixed to the back of the panel. My artistic process focuses on transforming my surroundings into new scenes that straddle the worlds of abstraction and reality. My work is highly manual with minimal post-processing. With a motion-based technique incorporating deliberate camera movements, I use my camera to pull out colours, shapes and textures from the scene before me and weave them into a new world of my making.

I love the sense of adventure and exploration that photography offers. I particularly enjoy experimenting with motion and blurring in my photos to create images that combine abstract and figurative elements. I strive to fuse colour, texture and movement to create photographic compositions that spark emotions. Knowing that different viewers will have their own unique response and interpretation is part of the joy that I derive from my work. I view every photo as a glimpse into a moment, a scene and a world where life is happening. I often write a snippet of narrative to accompany each photo to share my vision of the story and possibilities behind it. Presented without a broader context, these pairings of image and narrative invite viewers to pick up these threads and continue the story in whatever direction their imagination takes them.
