Paul Shefferly M.F.A. IT’S JUST DAMN FUN I have fun, making art has always been fun for me. If it’s working in the darkroom, shooting or finishing frames I have a lot of fun. I don’t really consider myself an artist I view myself as a creative problem solver. I see challenges everywhere I go and think to myself how I would change it. I took a lighting class in graduate school and have been in love with light ever since. Light is all around us all the time, with the exception of a light proof room or box and how it plays with us intrigues me. I will sit in one location for hours watching the light change the environment around me. I will figure out a way to capture what I want you to see about the light. I love to see what other people create. When the mid is clear of our countless obstructions we can really see the splendor of the world around us. It’s a gift, watch a child intrigued with a plain brown card board box, they are living the gift. My background is so incredibly diverse I am content doing just about anything, but my passions are photography, photo editing, refinishing frames and serial killers. I was trained as a Psychological Profiler back in the 1980’s when it was considered “Voodoo” and witchcraft police work. Not the prominence it has today. One of my first profiles got me a suspect right off the bat, his family hired an attorney who told the department I was crazy and if I didn’t back off they would take legal action. The suspect moved on to another school and unfortunately was successful at hurting someone. Oh well. I wrote a final in art history profiling the artist using his work as a crime scene. Again, I’m crazy. The world is too caught up in convention and so afraid to try on those new shoes.
