About The Artwork

Wearable Sculpture sculpted, constructed and photographed by me. The sculpture is made from polyurethane resin. ‘Nuclear Winter’ is a mixed medium art piece. A heavy wearable sculpture has been made by me to restrict the model, whilst a variety of photographs record her movements. The definition of restriction is the limitation to control something. The key word is limited, this restriction can still be changed. On 5th August 1945 the United States launched two nuclear weapons into the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The explosion killed 90% of civilians and plantation immediately. In 2018 the whole world witnessed Kim Jon Um and Donald Trump threatening one another with nuclear war. Humans are imperfect. We can invent and philosophise, making us stand out from other animals. Due to this intelligence we call ourselves human as if we are special, different from other mammals we like to call animals, but all living organisms are the same. We all live and die on Earth. Our animal instinct supplies us with egos and greed. feeding our yearning to achieve. Biologically this yearning saved us through natural selection, but could it also be the characteristic which destroys the World? In 1983, Carl Sagan and Associates publicised The Nuclear Winter Theory which basically describes and explains the devastating effects a mass nuclear war has on the Earth and therefore its inhabitants. If there was a war in which 100 million tonnes of TNT were detonated, then 100 cities could produce temperature drops of 5-15 degrees. The smoke and dust produced would create a block, so no sun could reach the earth. Therefore, causing complete darkness, and without the sun there will be no life on Earth. Temperatures drop, creating a global ice age, killing every living organism on the planet. I see my artwork as a warning. The importance of disposing of nuclear weapons could save the planet. Humans are imperfect. They should not oversee such weapons. Egos and greed distract from logical thinking. The bone structure represents the joint death of all living mammals. The wire tubing represents dead plantation. The piece is growing from the model’s chest, to represent the unnatural chemicals which are released from nuclear weapons into the environment. The piece is invasive. The wire tubing stabs into her flesh to represent the flesh-eating, deadly chemicals released. She is surrounded by complete darkness causing freezing cold temperatures, her make-up has been styled to create a freezing, ice cold look.

I'm an emerging artist born and based in London. I currently study at the university of the arts London (London college of fashion campus). I'm studying BA 3D effects for fashion and performance. A specialist subject exploring set design for catwalks and theatre. As well as learning how to design and realise a costume, fashion piece, prop. I am inspired by wearable sculpture artists such as iris van Herpen and Rebecca horn. I consider my artwork mixed media. A combination of fashion photography, performance and sculpture. The model wearing one of my pieces is experiencing the art. How it feels on the skin, the weight and the smell. This is all captured in a photograph. So, the viewer is not just experiencing the piece alone, but is experiencing the piece though someone else's lived experience. This is my first time selling my work online. I've received a positive response on social media. Being shared on lovelies interiors on Instagram who has a 100k following. My first collection is based on the nuclear weapon crisis the world is experiencing. I strongly believe we need to dispense of these weapons of mass destruction. My artwork explores the nuclear winter theory which explores the environmental effects nuclear war has on the planet.
