« An alpine photograph is always an exceptional moment. Being in the right place at the right time can be due to luck or the result of a demanding quest. However, the mountain is always in motion, unpredictable; the key moment is fleeting and can disappear in the blink of an eye. If the rock seems motionless, the ice, the atmosphere and the sun are constantly swirling on its slopes and this is what I should ordinarily call this dance of water, air and light "the spirit of the mountain". Photographing the mountain is therefore a dialogue with its spirit, with one's body in the effort, with one's soul in contemplation. And when it is, at a moment completely magnificent and captivates me, I know that this moment is an immense privilege, an intense communion with the universe, the manifestation of an infinite grace. » Mathis Héraud lives in Annecy, France.
