About The Artwork

I feel that photography has long been more than just 'catching the moment', and now requires intense intervention from the photographer. The truth behind the image has always been too far away to be easily caught. Environmental images of reality should disassemble, assemble and sift through it, and only then will the most incredible fantasies and exaggerations become true. I am looking to find these moments in the ordinary things that fill our lives, such as our emotions, events at work or with our family, happiness and unhappiness in relationships, a cuisine with the man you love or a lonely supper on a holiday. There are various combinations of local and general history in our life. I take a hero and I build a frame around it, I build the expression. The surface and frame borders are shown and it’s fantastic that it is actually possible to define what is the reality behind the frame or more exactly it leaves space for imagination.

I was born in 1979 in the North Caucasus in Russia. For the last few years I create in Tel Aviv. Once, I read somewhere the Chinese definition of imagery. They define imagery as follows: there are three mirrors, which reflect the people. The first is how you see yourself, the second is how others see you and the third mirror reflects the truth. I like to imagine that the third mirror is the camera. It's impressive how much information can be accommodated in a single static image. We can see different meaningful details, some emotions that stay or pain that continuous in a still image. It is also possible to show the absence of something, by an appropriate frame staging. It's important for me to be open and be able to see what is usually taken for granted, which means to learn how to discern the flow of an individual life, the subtleties and deviations, and try to combine them, to manipulate their different components: objects, history, prejudice and personal experience. I want to create the space where I ask questions and play with options for answers. Regular representation doesn't work for me and doesn't speak to me, because it became a kind of model, a pattern that is in our heads. So, to distinguish between what feels true and what doesn't, to see what works, I use overstatement, like this distortion, and I connect it to everyday situations. I offer to touch a situation - emotionally, through a mix of details, symbols, places, people, meanings and feelings.
