About The Artwork

Paper AIrplanes are a fascination of mine, primarily because it reminds me of a simpler time. Anyone can make one, and everyone can fly one, just fold anf fly! Whatt could be easier? For this project, I decided to make a paper airplane out of wood, and it's an entirely new series for me. There's a bit of humor in this new series, and maybe a little irony too, given that a lot of paper is made from wood byproducts. Who doesn't like a paper airplane?

I'm not just a photographer, one of my not so secret hobbies is woodworking. I like to build things out of wood. Oddly enough, I've never incorporated my woodworking into my photography, until now. My latest series of images is based on my love of wood, ALL kinds of wood. I could babble on about wood, but you get the idea. I do like to work the wood by hand as much as possible, except of course for the major cuts, all the finishing is done sans machine. I have an endless supply of materials to work with, and enough variety to keep it interesting for me. My marquetry leaves a lot to be desired, it all comes clean in the digital wash anyway. It's rather exciting to have a new passion, even if it's something that's always been there. A lot ends up on the shop floor, but that's all part of creating. My current series of personal work is my geometric shapes series. Where I am building the props that are in my compositions. At first glance they may seem simple, but there is a considerable amount of work that goes into these images at both ends of the production. I hope you like my work, and please don't hesitate to drop me a line if there are any questions I can help you with. Enjoy, S.
