Meaning, Inspiration, Provocation - adding a different dimension to conventional photography. Julius Eb's work offers a different dimension to conventional photography. Details are reduced, colors are enhanced to screaming symphonies or plain duotones. His works are a unique translation of Contemporary Photography into Abstract Realism. With a background in journalism and photo-journalism Eb's work was always about story telling. He submerged into the situation, became invisible - wether it was at an event for the local paper or later for international magazines and organizations covering the life of landmine victims in Cambodia or other post conflict environments. Being was reduced to seeing. "Although the saying is 'a picture tells more than a thousand words' a plain photograph - as powerful as it might be - was at some point not enough." says Eb. "I still become one with my environment but there had to be other dimensions that could be added. Dimensions such as time, composition, color or detail - both enhanced or reduced". The computer became Eb's palette, software his brush. He started to experiment with different equipment and different techniques. "Although few people realized that I took pictures when I was out shooting for my art projects, a cellphone for example gives a much lower profile and draws even less attention." And certain software allows for experimental photography pushing the envelope even further. One example is his series "4 Seconds". "It's an approach to compress four seconds of time into a single image; to layer multiple dimensions in meaning and visual translation of emotions and motions on top of each other; resulting in images and stories a human eye could never capture" explains Eb. The range of subjects and topics is wide: "There is nothing that is not of interest if it triggers my inspiration. The world IS my oyster. Main focus are however people and the society they live in; recently reflected in his project "Gjenerate A". Generation A is a portrait of modern Albanian society and its transition from a socialist dictatorship to a "something more democratic" with particular focus on the first generation that grows up with little influence by the times of Enver Hoxha. What defines this generation? The past, the challenges, the values, the habitat and in particular the role of women. The projects was implemented in collaboration with civil society organizations and shown in the National Gallery of Albania.
