About The Artwork
PRE HISTORY is from the series PORTRAITS FROM FUTURES PAST. It is a manipulated digital photograph that has been painted with acrylics and brush pens. After manipulating the original I made one print and then deleted the manipulated file then painted the one print. I used acid free paper and archival inks. I have photographed these pre Hispanic figurines in Mexico several times over the past 20 years. They have always affected me powerfully...seeming both ancient and futuristic. My desire was never to document them but rather to hop on, climb inside and see where they might take me. I made the frame from recycled materials. It was inspired by the folk art I have seen all over Mexico and Central America.
