The photographer, Ian Badley, loves to photograph classic sail boats. The beauty of their traditional build and design make wonderful pictures. Here, a lone sailing yacht racing in the Solent off Cowes on the Isle of Wight in England, loses the sheet tension of its spinnaker. Ian captured this moment in time and developed the picture by removing all colour apart from the vibrant red sail. Colour can sometimes become distracting. Here it adds a strong visual experience in Ian's view. From the original RAW picture information captured, the image is processed using traditional techniques such as 'dodging and burning' to bring out the tones of the image and produce a classic picture in Ian's original style.
