About The Artwork

Driving through Italy many times between the Uk and Greece and often passing the magnificent train station at Reggio Emilia on the Autostrada. I knew that I wanted to shoot the station and discovered many images from the entrance side but very few from the autostrada itself, probably because there is no legal position to capture an image from the road. After much research I discovered a vantage point but it was difficult and dangerous to access. By chance this red van passed with no other vehicles. Initially i had not realised the vehicle had been captured in the frame and it was not planned. I loved the simplicity of the three colours and the sense of movement against the static strength of this imposing structure.

John Lanasis is a Photographer Actor and Filmmaker, trained as a drama director at the BBC. His photographic work has sold in Harrods, Selfridges and Jasper Conran and has been published in a number of magazines and books. Greece Magazine called him 'The Monet of Photographers', though his strong attraction to contemporary subject matter and the search for 'patterns in the chaos' as he calls it, has led to a style change in recent years. His photographic inspiration is partly drawn from artists such as Andreas Gursky and Michael Wolf, but most compositions are viewed as a cinematographic frame and each scene as prospective film location while he imagines what type of scene the location would lend itself to. In that respect his inspiration is also drawn from filmmakers such as Bertrand Blier, Claude Berri, Francois Dupeyron and Bernardo Bertolucci amongst many others. John is currently in development as a producer with a remake of the 1977 BBC Television Drama Series 'Who Pays the Ferryman' He is based on the Greek island of Corfu.
