About The Artwork

A close-up photographic study of the profile and wing of a Common Ring-Necked Pheasant photographed by Photographer Patrick Steel. (Print only - not framed) Please note: A low resolution image of the artwork has been uploaded to the Saatchi Art website. The clarity, vibrancy and quality of the image will certainly be greater in photographic print form. - Print dimensions: 20 x 13.3 inches. - A limited edition of only 30 at this size. - Only three sizes available: 20, 30 & 40 inch prints. - Printed to order by Metro Imaging in London. - Accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity. - Allow at least 1-2 weeks turnaround. - Worldwide shipping. Print: Digital C-Type. Image orientation: Landscape / Horizontal. Presentation: Enfolded in acid free tissue paper and placed flat within an acid free cardboard box for delivery. Framing recommendations: Acrylic reverse mounting (frameless): A contemporary way to present photographic prints for interiors. The print is bonded to acrylic /Perspex® using a silicon gel and then backed with 2mm Dibond®. Once the acrylic has been bonded to the front of your print the refraction of light through the acrylic gives a high definition effect and deep saturated colour. An aluminium sub-frame on the reverse of the artwork floats the rigid panel from the wall. (Note: Reverse acrylic mounting can be organised by the artist and carried out by Metro Imaging in London but at an additional cost. Also, allow for additional delivery costs). Traditional classic frame: Dry mounted, window mounted, framed by a moulding and fronted with specialist art glass for protection. About the subject: The common pheasant (Phasianus colchicus) is a bird in the pheasant family (Phasianidae). It is native to Asia and has been widely introduced elsewhere as a game bird. In parts of its range, namely in places where none of its relatives occur such as in Europe (where it is naturalised), it is simply known as the "pheasant". Ring-necked pheasant is both the name used for the species as a whole in North America and also the collective name for a number of subspecies and their intergrades which have white neck rings. The word pheasant is derived from the ancient town of Phasis, the predecessor of the modern port city of Poti in Western Georgia. It is a well-known game bird, among those of more than regional importance perhaps the most widespread and ancient one in the whole world. The common pheasant is one of the world's most hunted birds. Image © Patrick Steel Website: mrsteel.london Contact: enquiries@mrsteel.london

Arthur Steel (my father), now retired, was a renowned Fleet Street Photographer (arthursteel.co.uk) and because of his career I literally grew up surrounded by cameras. From the age of seven I would help him print black and white images in the darkroom. Later on in life I studied Photography for a year at College and became a window cleaner throughout this period to help finance myself. After a fortnight of unpaid work experience I was offered a full time job at London's largest photographic studio, Holborn Studios. I worked there for two years as a studio assistant and then went on to assist as a freelancer for a further eight years travelling extensively around the globe on assignments working with some of the world's leading Photographers. During this time, I mainly assisted Portrait Photographers such as Terry O'Neill and was lucky enough to have personally met and worked with Her Majesty The Queen, Michael Jackson, David Bowie and Elizabeth Taylor, to name a few. Since then, I've worked as a Freelance Professional Photographer, working closely with advertising agencies, design companies and interior designers. However, for a number of years I suffered with Atrial Fibrillation and in the summer of 2015 I underwent an invasive heart procedure called a Catheter Ablation in the hope that it would terminate a faulty electrical pathway within the chambers of my heart. I was unable to work for a long time after the procedure. During my recovery period, I had to keep myself mentally stimulated and as I wasn't able to take on any commissions I allocated myself my own photographic projects to accomplish. During this time, whilst shooting the projects, I was admitted into A&E resus on three separate occasion's with a resting heart rate of over 200 beats per minute. On my first visit in November 2015, I was cardioverted by way of an electric shock, which unfortunately was administered incorrectly. I managed to survive this electric shock treatment and continued to work on my projects and underwent my second heart procedure in December 2017. Through my extreme passion for photography I was able to focus on my projects, giving me good reason to get up every morning and to carry on creating, even though just walking up stairs was a struggle. Having the freedom to photograph whatever I wanted, with no art direction but my own was exhilarating.
