Roman Building Abstract - Limited Edition of 100 Photograph

Italy. My oldest recollection of Italy was in 1985, just after I checked into my crumby room in a large hotel In Milano, after arriving from NYC at the age of 24. This hotel served the large and constantly growing community of aspiring young fashion photographers, models and hair & makeup artists who came to Milan in search of Glory, to be featured in the many magazines that existed and encouraged foreign talent. Looking out of the window I saw on the street below, a balding older man with dark wispy hair on the sides, wearing a typical white Italian undershirt, the sleeveless type that emphasizes the arms. He seemed to be tickling this very funny, tiny little dark blue car (Classic Fiat 500) with some long, feathery object, when I realised that he was dusting it off with a huge feather duster, the type one uses on cobwebs in the furthest regions of your living room. I thought, wow, this is the cutest thing I’ve ever seen, and I immediately fell in love with this gorgeous country. Well, what’s not to like? The food, the architecture, the ART, the culture, and of course the food. Did I mention the food? I surely overstayed my welcome in Italy, but best not get into the finer details of Visas and red tape of all sorts. After all, I was now living the dream, and after a huge amount of hard work, was picked up by several well known magazines like Harper’s Bazaar and Amica, was scouted by one of the best Agents in town, and putting weight like you wouldn’t believe. 35 years later and those first pizza’s and all those pasta’s are still hanging around my middle. I’m working on that.. For 35 years I still tour around Italy whenever the chance arises. There is still so much more to see. One lifetime is not enough. While many Italians frown when you mention Milano, for me it was so special. I had found a cute place near the Colonne di San Lorenzo, not a far tram-ride from the Duomo itself and the city centre. I loved and still love Rome and the Vatican, Florence, Venice, Sardinia, Sicilia, Lake Como and Bellagio. Closer to Milan was my favourite little piece of Italy; Bergamo Alta, la Citta Vechia (the Old Town), a magnificent little town on a high hill, accessible by a very futuristic Funicular. Needless to say, I enjoyed the country of Italy¬ tremendously and always tried to photograph the quirkier things and the people whenever time allowed. The photographs in this collection started 35 years ago and have continued until now. Please feel free to ask me about any of these images.. there is usually a good story behind them.
