Roman Helmet From the "Strong Currents" series Iceland Limited Edition Archival Print on Hahnemühle Photo Rag® 308g matte paper 20" x 20" | Edition 2 of 25 Image presented here is a part of the wider series called: “Strong Currents”. All of them were taken during mental-bike trip around Iceland made in summer 2009. Together with my friend Paul we crossed by bikes almost 1500 km (about 1000 miles) of the Icelandic interior. Along the way we experienced a lot of weird, extreme and extraordinary phenomena and images. As a reminiscence of this trip I remember the feeling of strong currents: mental ones as well as physical… All those pictures were taken on B&W film by my 50 years old Rolleiflex T TLR camera.

My name is Marcin Żuberek, I was born in 1979, I am living and working in Warsaw, Poland. The phenomenons that attract me most in my photographic work are: empty spaces and noisy silence. I love all kinds of exploration. Peripheries of the map have been always my favourite destination point (maybe because apart from being photographer, I am also anthropologist;)). How does it feel like living on the edge of the cartographic grid? How does a place at the forgotten end of the map look like? Usually, my intention is to create a visual impression about the metaphysical relation between a land that we are physically connected with and an open, neverending space where our minds are floating. My works are in-between documentary and creation made later on, in postproduction. Apart from my love for digital technology, I remain a faithfully user of analogue cameras (mostly Mamiya 7). Space and form are also a common theme in my commercial work as an interior and architecture photographer.
