About The Artwork
While working on my MFA thesis project in Bears Ears National Monument, I came across this sight deep in a canyon. I saw roots, sediment, ancient rock, and could not tell where one form began and the next ended. It seemed as though the roots were in a transitional stage, long since dead and interrupted in there metamorphosis into fossil. With perennial plants growing nearby I was struck by a profound sense of the passage of time.

I am a photographer whose artistic beginnings were founded in the field of wildlife research. I was compelled to learn to use art as a means to communicate the importance of environmental conservation and scientific understanding. Much of my work centers around the interface between so-called human and natural worlds. At times the border between is obvious, and at others invisible. Natural forms contrast with the anthropogenic marks we leave on the landscape. At other times I make work while enveloped in the quiet solitude of empty spaces. We are all producers of whatever landscapes exist.
