A series of photographs of my first of trip travelling through the ancient villages in the Guangdong/Fujian border in southern China There are dozens of other Chaoshan villages, testimonies of their traditional Chaozhou /Teochew culture and architecture, fading way as they become absorbed and diluted by expanding suburbs of nearby Chinese cities. Pictured are the remaining houses in Chaoszhou style architecture. Jieyang is a run down city with over 2200 years of history in Southern China. This is where Hakka (a special northern Han community) melted with the southern China cultures. Work is printed on high quality, gallery standard, Fine Art Hahnemühle Photo Rag paper 100% cotton, white, with a white border for framing. I've included a certificate of authenticity signed by me. Serge Horta is a documentary photographer based in Ho Chi Minh. He recently relocated to Vietnam after spending nearly two decades capturing the raw essence of life in Hong Kong. Through his academic training in architecture, he is able to capture impossible order amidst the chaos of cities. His photographs are the result of a hypnotic obsession with how different cultures live, adapt and interact with the built environment, from the perfectly manicured suburb to the sprawling slum. His extensive portfolio documents the metamorphosis of the urban landscapes in which he has lived or merely traversed - from Sydney to New York, London to Guangzhou. Amid noise and chaos, Serge manages to find moments of peace and silence. Having photographed in over 100 countries, we see deeply personal and engaging human stories emerging from what’s often overlooked, making a powerful, penetrating impression on the viewer. Serge’s work is held in private collections in several countries including the United States, Australia, Hong Kong, The Netherlands, UK, Spain, U.A.E., France, and Switzerland.
