SEAMOTION is a fascinating long-term project by German photographer Herbert Böttcher. In this project, he portrays the monumental ships with his unmistakable emotional visual language. The images by photographer Herbert Böttcher reveal to the viewer the sheer size, but also the monumentality and hidden beauty of the container giants. He portrays them not from land, but from on board. In the pure and sculptural, almost cubist aesthetic of his pictures, the steel giants seem to rest motionless and static, while the waves crash around them and the land passes them by. Although we come into contact with huge quantities of goods and products that are traded worldwide every day, it is difficult to visualise the global flow of goods: At least the gigantic container ships, whose lines form the lifelines of the commodity economy, give a first impression of the enormous dimensions of international trade.
