About The Artwork

The text panels with imperatives around KOMM/COME and GEH/GO, first used in 2004, are reloaded and independently ask questions about perspective, position and feelings. With word pictures of walking, coming and standing - positioning in space - I create positioning in the here and now. The idea of the Similis, i. e. 'similar' in Latin, accompanies me in many groups of works, since there is usually a basic measure, a module, a basic idea or kinship. The Simili-Flex. group of works is based on a module that allows the creation of idiosyncratically encrypted new worlds of language and images in symmetry - like a constantly changing fabric. The works are created from a preliminary stage of the Cut Out objects with the help of light, shadow, movement and alteration of the paper templates themselves. The Futura, a typeface designed by the Frankfurt typographer Paul Renner in 1927, serves me as a basis for my word pictures. Using a special printing technique, direct printing on Aludibond, paint is sprayed onto a smooth surface like a mist, forming a film or exposing blank areas - an additional haptic irritation - like an object.

QUO VADIS - CONTINUED... Where are we going too - where are we coming from? The architectonic space in which we define ourselves, delimit ourselves and organize ourselves is for many years what paid attention to. The ‘SIMILIS’, which means ‘similar’ in Latin and also ‘related’ for me, have accompanied me in many work groups, I put fragments of a place or form in differing states. Positive and negative thereby offer me possibilities of perception and depiction. COMING - GOING - STANDING I create light-filled photographs of “word pictures” from words of our movement and processes them on the computer. These I named SIMILI-POESIS. This work complex is carried further by color fields freely painted on handmade paper, into which cutout letters are inserted. Which are photograped with their shadows and once again develops on the computer complex picture forms reminiscent of the mirror images in Rorschach blots: SIMILI-FLEX and SIMILI-SUPER-FLEX. I open up this flowing, this flexibility that lies hidden in everything into a new conceptual space beyond the mere information carried by script. "LOGOS IN CONCEPTUAL SPACE ... 'logos' is much more than 'word': the Greek term has many meanings that go beyond the one-dimensional English “word”. Logos means: to speak, speech, meaning, and reason. Ina Holitzka plays with the kind of conceptual space that a word or sentence can fill out: for example, the “GEH DOCH” (JUST GO) used in several work groups can be perceived as encouraging, rejecting, cheering, or an order, all depending on the tone of voice. In a text, punctuation would provide the tone. Holitzka leaves it out, and uses solely upper-case letters. She thereby opens up a diversity of meaning that she regards as flowing. ..."
