"I have long been fascinated by the William Blake poem 'The Auguries of Innocence' - especially its opening line -" 'To see the World in a Grain of Sand'. The Universe works expand this paradox to the stars. "I get distracted for hours on beaches, staring at fragments of nature and discovering the vast expanse of myriad existences hidden in plain sight. You can see the Cosmos in tiny particles, here on Earth. I want to connect people to the Universe and its infinite reach by hyper-focusing on the miraculous beauty of the infinitesimal." Captured on the shorelines of New Zealand this work explores Duality - Microcosm/Macrocosm, Light/Dark, Life/Death, Control/Chaos, Creation/Destruction. The transitory nature of our existence, and our impermanence within the flow of time, should give us all pause for thought and change. The techniques bringing the Universe exhibition to life are an accumulation of seven years' experimentation. The process is reliant on both precision and chance, much like the Universe itself. Key to the creation of these works is their destruction. These artworks were destroyed the moment they were created - by wind, by sea, by the speed of light. They are unique moments in time and hence there will only ever be one of each -no Artist's Proofs, no editions. These are 'one of one' works, signed and dated to the exact second the image was created.
