About The Artwork

Camping on the edge of an ephemeral salt lake in Western Australia I was immersed in observing the cluster of stars nearest to the earth, called the ‘Sisters’. In local Aboriginal spirituality, the Seven Sisters Dreaming involves the ‘Sisters’ on one of their nightly exploits. They were cruising across the sky and far below they saw a lake, and decided to go down and play for a while on its surface. They did this, but soon a man started chasing them, very keen to catch the youngest sister. Very frightened, to escape the man, they had to hide. Comprising 3 separate elements, this image tells the story of the Spirit of the man still looking for the sisters. I created his image by making and photographing a clay figurine whilst carefully crafting some movement into the shot and duplicating some of this image for his shadow. Finding a suitable image with similar movement of the salt lake I then composed and inserted the figurine image. The third element is the sisters hiding places where they found safety, being the small hillocks and islands on the horizon which came from a third image capturing the features of the surroundings. 'Shifting Spirit' is from the Primordial Landscapes series by Bruce Peebles. Edition limited to 5, size 30 x 30 inches (76cm x 76cm). I apply some in-camera techniques to the landscape and the outback in particular for the 'Primordial Landscapes' series. I enroll the use of color, often muted but sometimes bright and garish, to capture the essence of the Australian landscape. This edition is limited to 5 and created using Diasec bonding techniques for high quality large art. The colors just sing! Diasec is the first system that allows photographs to be bonded directly and permanently to Acrylic sheet. It is the worlds most established and quality proven face-mounting process. Photographs are mounted to high exhibition standards without borders and eliminate the need for a traditional picture frame. Simply stunning vibrant pictures that appear to float off your wall. The image is printed on a Kodak Metallic Archival photographic paper face-mounted to 6mm art quality acrylic and bonded to a slimline metal sheet that has a hanging frame on the back so that it sits out from the wall by about an inch, this gives you a shadow that makes it look as if it is floating. No separate payment or need for framing, no more breakable glass and expensive heavy frames to carry from house to house, this is scratch resistant, durable and will last a lifetime. This is the latest in high definition quality printing and framing and very few places in the world can produce an image this size in this format. The image is processed so that the print is high pressure face-mounted to 6mm art acrylic resulting in superb vibrant colors that last a lifetime. The panel has polished edges and will sit out from the wall about an inch when hanging. This creates a shadow giving it the illusion of floating off the wall. Your beautiful art will be carefully packaged in a custom made box with plenty of protection for shipping. Takes approximately two weeks to get ready to ship. Bruce is a multi-media artist based in Brisbane, Australia, with paintings, photography and mixed-media works represented in corporate and private collections globally. Trained in fine art practices and techniques, honed over four decades in advertising photography, Bruce travels, photographs and paints full time. Exploring the finer aspects of composition, balance, harmony and design he loves breaking the rules, often turning mistakes into ideas and subsequent artworks. His work is energetic and dynamic, reflecting the colors of his native New Zealand and the vibrancy and experiences of the Australian Landscape where he lives, travels and loves. He incorporates layers of acrylic, oils, inks and glazes, applied with brushes, sponges and textured media to create depth. Rhythm and motion are the driving forces of Bruce’s art, utilizing a simplistic exchange between realistic representation and the abstract form. His signature collections include Sun Glitter, Ocean Spirit, Primordial Landscapes, Seascapes and the Lightscapes series.
