About The Artwork

This photograph is from a series which aim to reframe contemporary landscape. 46 degrees North, the latitude of the Alps, is the locale for the artist's focus on climate change and the delicate balance of glacial landscapes. The work is a playful exploration of focal point and depth of field, using mirrors to explore the line between abstraction and figurative art. Tamar Payne draws inspiration from the traditions of Modernist abstraction and European Romanticism. Her most recent series of work grew out of a two year sabbatical spent in Switzerland. Tamar Payne uses collage, photography, and silkscreen prints to shift perspective and manipulate depth of field. Much of the work features the glacial landscapes around Mont Blanc and the French Swiss Border.

Shipping & Returns

Delivery Time:Typically 5-7 business days for domestic shipments, 10-14 business days for international shipments.

Tamar Payne’s mixed media collages and photography present a fractured viewpoint and the visual tension in an image saturated digital world, where our gaze and sensibilities are divided by the urban and the suburban, the industrial and the rural, the analogue and the digital. The artist’s source material is often captured using an SLR camera and then realised using hand-pulled silkscreen print. In her work the artist acknowledges the visual language of the decorative and the sublime. The work uses visual affect to pull the viewer in to taking a closer look, seducing the viewer into the pictorial space, through the looking glass of landscape. Tamar Payne completed an MA in Fine Art practice at Brighton and postgraduate study at Chelsea School of Art, UAL. She has exhibited at the Royal Academy Summer exhibition, the Affordable Art Fair and group shows in London. Tamar had her first solo show in Autumn 2022 at the Rupture Exhibit Gallery in Kingston, West London.
